Youth Resilience Declared Commonwealth’s Core Strength at Samoa Summi

The 13th Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) opened in Apia, Samoa, with a vibrant celebration of culture and diversity. Delegates from the 56 Commonwealth countries gathered to highlight youth-led achievements and chart a course for future action.

A Unified Vision

Through performances by the Onomea youth dance group and dynamic exchanges, the event emphasized unity in diversity. Each representative joined Samoan performers on stage, symbolizing collective strength. The central message: Commonwealth youth are not just the future—they are the present, ready to tackle global challenges.

Four Key Themes

The forum focuses on building resilient democracies, economies, environments, and societies. Leiataualesa Kevin Lucky, Chairperson of the Samoa National Youth Council, emphasized:
“Young people are rising as leaders, innovators, and champions of change. We’re harnessing our creativity and passion to drive climate resilience, social entrepreneurship, and community-led initiatives.”

Youth Leadership in Action

Kim Allen, Chair of the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), highlighted youth resilience amidst global challenges:
“Climate change, inequality, and social injustice threaten our future, yet I’m inspired by the resilience and creativity of young people across the Commonwealth.”

Future Directions

Deputy Secretary-General Dr. Arjoon Suddhoo commended youth contributions:
“From Rwanda to Samoa, young voices have led the way. This forum celebrates resilience and innovation, looking forward to shaping a brighter future.”

Policy Impact

The forum will conclude with policy recommendations forming a Youth Declaration, presented to Commonwealth leaders during CHOGM. Additionally, a new Commonwealth Youth Programme Memorandum of Understanding will ensure the Secretariat’s work with youth remains impactful for the next 50 years.

This CYF marks a pivotal step in positioning youth as central agents of progress, ready to transform vision into action across the Commonwealth.
